Arab States Regional Meeting on Global Innovation Index

CAIRO, 15 – 17 October 2019 (MENA) - The League of Arab States (LAS) hosts a Regional Meeting on the Global Innovation Index (GII).

Carsten Fink, Chief Economist of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presented an overview of the results of the 2019 GII report, as well as the methodology and data sources and collection needed to generate the index.

Deputy Director General, Mario Matus, and Director of Regional Bureau for Arab Countries, Walid Abdel-Nasser, also graced the event, highlighting the role of innovation for economic and human development in the Arab region and discussing ongoing WIPO activities with Arab states.

Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakheet, the Director of Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Department at the Arab League, also discussed several LAS activities in the area of innovation.

Overall within the Arab region, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Qatar are ranked the top 3 innovation economies for GII 2019.
